Le Pain Quotidien (UPDATED)

Le Pain Quotidien (UPDATED)

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that impress the most. A perfect toasted Ham and Cheese Croissant ($6.50) made with Gruyere cheese, and served with cucumber and radish, and a pot of mustards, won me over here. A warm bowl of well-made Caffè Latte ($4.50) was the perfect antidote to the chilly air; and their Mocha ($5.00) attested to the use of good chocolate. The space is bright, with warmth and rustic charm. Daytime dining includes Tartines (open sandwiches), a rich Ham and Gruyere Organic Omelette ($13.50), or perhaps an Organic Egg with Hollandaise Sauce ($12) with optional Ham ($14) or Smoked Salmon ($16). On Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, join them for an early dinner (from 6pm). Dinner options come with bread, and you’ll get change from twenty dollars! The menu varies ‘ I tried the Beef Bourguignon (a pot roast of braised beef in rich red wine) and the Seafood Cocotte (a tomato-based stew with calamari, mussels and fish) ‘ both were hearty and delicious. You can also take home Natural Black Olives ($10.90) and the Poivre Noir de la Cote de Malabar ($20), a great black pepper with grinder; as well as bread and pastries.
