Danish bike culture rolls through CBD

An exhibition boasting innovative Danish bicycle designs and promote Danish cycling culture in Sydney opened at the University of Technology’s Broadway campus last week.
Dreams on Wheels is a joint venture between the Danish Embassy and City of Sydney Council aiming to boost the profile of cycle culture in Sydney.
Among the bicycle designs on display are what are known as ?City Bikes?, which are used in Denmark under a free bicycle rental program in the inner-city.
The 12-day long exhibition will also screen a number of documentaries, including Jørgen Leth?s work about the Tour de France.
Danish Ambassador Mrs Susanne Shine opened the event with Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP on Tuesday night.
Ms Moore said that riding a bike is a ?wonderful way? to move around the city and she hopes the number of trips by pushbike will increase by 500 percent in the next decade.
?City of Sydney aims to create a 200km network of cycling routes, including 55km of separated cycle lanes, linking our villages and the CBD,? she said.
The exhibition coincides with the re-opening of the Royal Danish Embassy in Canberra.
It will run until June 22 at the Tower Building, Level 1, Broadway, UTS, Sydney.
