Bondi champs again

Surf Life Saving Sydney has named Bondi Champion Club of the branch for the 2007/08 season ‘ and for the second time in the past three seasons.

The announcement and a presentation was made recently at SLSS’s Awards of Excellence function at Sutherland District Trade Unions Club, Gymea, where Bondi was also announced winner of three other major awards on the night.

Meanwhile, stalwart John Greaves was the recipient of the club’s most prestigious honour for the 2007/08 season, the President’s Award, at the recent Presentation Night.

Greaves was chosen by club president Rod Harvey, who deemed him the member who made the most significant contribution in the voluntary administration of club affairs during the season.

He was one of the club’s three carnival co-ordinators when Bondi hosted Surf Life Saving Australia’s four-day Year of the Surf Lifesaver closing carnival in November-December 2007, managed the club’s teams at major carnivals including state and national championships and took over as chairman during the season of the Rules and By-Laws Sub-Committee, which has the arduous task of revising the club’s constitution.
