Bondi Bohemia winter festival

Bondi Bohemia winter festival

The winter solstice has just passed heralding the return of the annual Bondi Bohemia Winter Festival, which this year will be held from Saturday, July 5 to Sunday 13.

Waverley Mayor Ingrid Strewe described the event as a commemoration of Bondi’s bohemian roots.

‘It’s a full-on winter festival celebrating art and music and there’ll be treats for everyone,’ she said. ‘We have plans for markets and eco-friendly stalls, with music, games, rides, face painting, chalk art and craft activities for all ages. This is our second winter festival and we have some great acts by local musicians planned.’
There will also be art and writing workshops at venues around the town centre.
‘You can view the fantastic photographic displays in shop windows and join up for walking tours to learn about Bondi’s colourful history and culture.’ Councillor Strewe said. ‘For the energetic there’s going to be a big skate competition at Bondi’s skate park and serious surfing fun with ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ – catch those winter waves!’
Bondi attracts thousands of visitors from all around the world during summer but in winter visitor numbers drop off considerably, the mayor said.
‘Although skies are often clear and blue the days are shorter and the water isn’t as inviting. That’s why we started our winter festivals; people love visiting our iconic beach in summer but we want people to realise that winter is a special time here too.  Bondi is a fantastic place for shopping, watching whales, walking on the beach or grabbing a bite to eat in one of the many pubs, restaurants or cafes nearby.’
