MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY

MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY

Adapted from Winifred Watson’s 1938 novel, the film depicts 24 hours in the life of gorgeous starlet Delysia Lafosse. She impulsively hires a down-and-out, dowdy governess as her personal assistant, who uses her charm and some desperate improvisation to excel at the job. Over a very short period, both women empower the other to make important life changes. The unlikely coupling of brilliant Frances McDormand with relative newcomer Amy Adams works delightfully in this fairytale for adults. This is a fun, enjoyable film with real things to say about the nature of true love and the choices we make for it. The art direction in the film is definitely worthy of a mention for the masterful recreation of 1939 London. (Talia Linz)
