Husky Rescue – Ghost is Not Real

Husky Rescue – Ghost is Not Real

Ghost is Not Real – Husky Rescue

By Chris Peken

From the opening My Home Ghost the comparisons to Air are unavoidable, particularly as the song builds layer upon layer, to a dense electronic climax. But Finland’s Husky Rescue are a more diverse beast. The baby of child prodigy Marko Nyberg, Husky Rescue definitely inhabit that ethereal world of Air, all textures and atmosphere along with the floating, fragile female vocals of Reeta-Leena Jorhola. Diamonds in the Sky blending those Air-like elements with a simple guitar and looping bass that has distant echoes of Fleetwood Mac. But Husky Rescue are not content to sit in one groove. Unafraid to be epic – the three part Blueberry Tree – or to explore out and out rock – Nightless Night – these side trips are commendable in concept but less convincing in execution – a little saccharine in the case of the former, and a touch stilted for the later. A return to safer ground with the brooding, electronic minimalism of Silent Woods is far more satisfying. The artwork of top Finnish graphic designer Kustaa Saksi is equally deserving of mention, conveying the child-like, whimsical, surreal world that Husky Rescue create at their peak.
