There is a particular fuzz guitar that first came to the wider public’s attention via John Lennon’s playing on Revolver, but had its roots in the psychedelic garages of the 60’s. That is the sound of The Black Hollies in 2008. Take a trip in H G Well’s Time Machine courtesy of The Black Hollies and Casting Shadows. Forget the advent of the internet, mobiles and the worries of global warming, for it is 1966 again and all is in glorious technicolor, flowers are in your hair and the aroma of the smoke in the air is unmistakable. Hamilton Park Ballerina, Paisley Pattern Ground, If You Won’t Let Go ‘ they would all sit comfortably on any Nuggets compilation. The freaky trip that these boys are on shimmers and shines through the haze of the years and proves that paisley can still be worn with distinction. The Black Hollies are the real deal; just some forty years later ‘ born out of time but not out of place.
