Fuck Buttons – Street Horrrsing

Street Horrrsing ‘ Fuck Buttons

BY CHRIS PEKEN

Not for the faint hearted are this Bristol duo of Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power, collectively choosing to call themselves the Fuck Buttons (why not Power Hung I ask you’). You can forget melody; go straight past chorus and collect and earful of noise for your troubles on their debut Street Horrrsing. Living on the edge of experimental noise and electronica, these minimal and slow moving soundscapes are awash with distortion and sparse keyboard lines as they paint bleak post-apocalyptic musical pictures (did I say they were from Bristol’). Pull out Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music as a starting point and transpose the word drone for melody and you will at least understand where the FB’s are coming from. Forget talking about individual tracks, let along using a word like songs, these are semantics that are obsolete in the FB’s world, this is an all or nothing experience. There is something that could be strangely hypnotic about Street Horrrsing if you can get that far into it.
